What is our lineage?
We practice Ving Tsun Kung Fu as it was passed to Grandmaster Ip Ching from his father Ip Man, Bruce Lee’s teacher. Our instructors are personally certified by Grandmaster Ip Ching and are members of the Ving Tsun Ip Ching Athletic Association.
Why is lineage important?
Mo Dak, or martial spirit, is a quality much revered by Chinese culture. It is developed through intense study in true martial principles. These principles can only be learned through study of a pure and undiluted martial art.
Is Ving Tsun effective for self-defense?
Ving Tsun was developed to defeat all known martial arts styles on the battlefield. The fighting techniques and principles easily convert to any street fighting situation.
Does Ving Tsun have ground fighting?
Ving Tsun is a complete martial art system. Our ground fighting is designed to get you off the ground as quickly as possible. This is most beneficial in street combat situations when you may be facing multiple opponents or weapons.
Does Ving Tsun have kicks?
Ving Tsun has many effective and devastating kicking techniques. Ving Tsun practitioners use kicks sparingly due to concern for balance and mobility. However, when you do kick you are in control and will not miss!
How long does it take to learn?
The basic self-defense techniques of Ving Tsun can be learned in as little as 6-9 months. However, the advanced principles and joy of training can last a lifetime.
Do you have testing or belt fees?
There is a fee for examination and advancement built into your tuition. We conduct an examination to insure students fulfill the guidelines and standards required by Grandmaster Ip Ching.
Does Ving Tsun have sparring?
Ving Tsun does not have sparring. Rather, Ving Tsun uses a unique full contact training exercise called, “Chi Sao,” that develops arm sensitivity and instant attacks and counter-attacks.
What is the difference between principle and technique?
In a fight, there is no time for thought. Simply put, a technique will work in a particular situation while a principle will work in any situation. Ving Tsun trains principle and instant response into your body in a short period of time.
Can anyone practice Ving Tsun?
Ving Tsun is perfectly suited for all ages of both men and women. Ving Tsun does not rely on the size or strength of the practitioner. You do not need to be athletic in Ving Tsun, just willing to learn.
What are the benefits of Ving Tsun?
Ving Tsun is a complete martial art containing both internal and external components. Ving Tsun provides more than just effective self-defense. Ving Tsun increases fitness, speed, power and courage, while simultaneously reducing stress and increasing relaxation.
